Dear Artists,
The members of the Roosevelt Island Visual Art Association (RIVAA) extend a cordial invitation to you to present your work at RIVAA Gallery for consideration to become part of our artist community.
The Roosevelt Island Visual Art Association (RIVAA) is a non-profit organization of an internationally diverse group of artists. Supported by public funding, private donations and artist contributions, RIVAA is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the community through art, events and workshops.

RIVAA Member is the original category of membership. Prospective members are required to submit a portfolio of their artwork with at least 5 physical samples or have an electronic portfolio ready to show on our screen; physical work is given the priority. lf accepted for membership, members pay an initial one-time fee of $352 followed by yearly dues of $242. Members are eligible to exhibit in all group exhibitions throughout the year (2-3 shows). Solo shows are available based on a credit system and merit, each request has to be submitted and will be reviewed by the board of directors. A 20% commission is required for any sold work. Members attend meetings, help to organize and hang exhibitions when needed, are eligible to vote in the annual elections and run for office, sit in the gallery on a regular basis to keep it open to the public and do any other work required in maintaining and running the gallery. We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the evening to update current programs and to plan future activities, and we ask members to participate.

RIVAA Associate Member, this category is open to everybody. There is no annual fee. Associate members may exhibit in the gallery, paying RIVAA $55 for each piece of juried work exhibited, and a 30% commission is required for any sold work. Associate members may attend meetings, sit in the gallery, and do any other work required in maintaining and running the gallery.

RIVAA Guest Artist, a guest artist can exhibit at a RIVAA Gallery exhibition or could have a solo or group show. There is a donation to the gallery up to $500 per day ($500 for one day, $450 per day for 2-4 days; $400 per day for 5-9 days; $375 per day for 10-20 days; $350 per day for 21+ days) A 30% donation is required for any sold work. For individual or small groups shows, RIVAA is not responsible for printing of invitations, publicity or refreshments. We will, however, send your announcement to our email guest list and social media. If guest artists or reps wish to sit for their own show, that can be arranged. Any additional events or extended gallery hours have to be approved by the Board of Directors, surcharge fees apply.

RIVAA Special Event or Performance, RIVAA Gallery is available by appointment to provide community and performing artists space to share their talents or special events. There is a donation to the gallery of $1000 per day. For individual or small groups shows, RIVAA is not responsible for printing of invitations, publicity or refreshments. We will send your announcement to our email guest list and social media. If guest artists or reps wish to sit for their own show, that can be arranged. Any additional events or extended gallery hours have to be approved by the Board of Directors.

RIVAA Junior Members, committed young artists between the ages of thirteen and eighteen. Interested artists are required to submit at least seven samples of their work in any visual medium or combination of media. lf accepted for membership, Junior Members may attend meetings, exhibit their juried artwork and intern in the gallery. There is a yearly membership fee of $150. A 10% commission is required for any sold work.

RIVAA Volunteer, artists and non-artists willing to volunteer and share your professional skills in the functioning of RIVAA Gallery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Answering phones, data entry, filing, maintenance of office space, other duties specifically around coordination of special events, or as assigned.

Requirements: Must present a professional appearance and a friendly manner. Must be dependable and punctual. Be courteous and personable when dealing with the public. Be self-directed, willing to take initiative, and detail-oriented. Respect and maintain confidentiality of RIVAA volunteers, partners, and donors. Computer skills are desired but not necessary.

RIVAA Internship, students and individuals interested in gaining knowledge and skills involved in maintaining and running a gallery. Candidates may be enrolled in a degree program with an internship requirement. Internship requirements can be satisfied by any combination of special projects, gallery maintenance and office work. At the end of the internship period, RIVAA will issue certificates of completion.
