Sophia Vitko

Sophia Vitko is a Ukrainian artist who came to New York after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Although she initially pursued a career in engineering and worked in the tech industry, her true passion has always been art. Sophia is a self-taught artist with a deep love for the creative process and an innate talent for capturing emotions through her work.

Having taken several courses in contemporary art in Barcelona and Kyiv, including art management, Sophia has honed her skills and developed a keen understanding of the art world. She has also supplemented her knowledge with various online courses, exploring different aspects of being an artist, from mastering painting techniques to strategies in collecting contemporary art.

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Sophia's entrepreneurial spirit led her to create her own mobile app for artists Artmywall which allows artists to display their artworks in interiors.

Sophia's artistic journey began with an interest in digital art, particularly fractal art. Using software and formulas, she created mesmerizing fractal images of 3D shapes, often incorporating abstract backgrounds into her compositions.

Throughout her artistic exploration, Sophia developed a strong affinity for abstract art. While she enjoys sketching figurative subjects, she finds the process of applying colors and strokes in a non-representative way truly captivating. Her abstract works draw inspiration from the legacies of abstraction and abstract expressionism, with influences from artists such as Willem de Kooning, Hans Hofmann, and Gerhard Richter.

Sophia primarily works with acrylic paints, occasionally incorporating pastels into her abstract pieces. However, her artistry extends beyond traditional mediums. Drawing from her background in technology, she also explores the intersection of art with science and technology, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible within abstract art.
